This is my first time blogging. Check that. I believe we have all blogged about something at some point in our cyber lives. I've left dozens of messages on forums, answer sites, FB, twitter, etc. I guess I should say this is the first time I'm blogging on my own blog that doesn't have a 140 character limit, allows me to post as anonymous, or is a response to someone else's blog. That said, my first post won't be anything profound. In fact, I wasn't even planning on writing anything but I felt since I went so far - it took 30 seconds - as to register for a blog, I might as well write something while in the mood. After all, I decided to create a blog so why not use it? This got me thinking about a subject matter. I suppose it's cliche to write about taking the first step as my first entry, but then again, I love cliches. And if you don't, well too bad. Take a look at the blog title and get in the spirit of things.
Too often, people feel their goals in life are too lofty, or too difficult to attain. Both of these things can be true. They can't see the forest through the trees. Believe me, I understand how overwhelming it can be to achieve a goal. If it weren't, chances are it would be achieved by now no? However, I feel there is an overabundance of people out there who prove that learning the secret to success isn't the hard part. It's taking that first step. And then the second and third and so on. The difference between the haves and the have-nots is just a matter of saying, "I want this" and then going and getting it. Let me just say that I am not a "have". I am trying to find my way before it's too late just like the vast majority of the people out there. That said, I'd like to think that since I've decided on a career path, I have been successful at laying out certain goals and working on them. This blog is one example.
It has become a passion to share help others realize their full potential. I recognize that it's hard to do this when you don't really have a lot to back it up with. Then again, I've lived a decent number of years on this planet and have been through many hardships that have provided me with plenty of lessons learned. I believe there are people out there who could benefit from my misgivings as well as some techniques and tips I've learned from personal/business coach training. Well, it's pretty difficult to help people from behind my desk at work. So what should I do? Quit my job and go on a nationwide tour and give motivational speeches? If I could, I would. But I realize I need to take care of certain things (education, career training, certification, etc.) in order to have security and stability in case I don't turn into the next Tony Robbins. On the other hand, should I wait another 5-6 years until I have had more experience under my belt? That doesn't seem very productive. If nothing else, this blog can serve as a way for me to practice writing, giving advice, and enteraining dialogues with other people. That last one is based on the assumption people will actually read this.
I'll wrap this poorly written, unedited, long-winded blog with this advice: take that first step. Whether it's towards repairing relationships, getting a job, going to school, or starting that pet project. Don't wait until the stars align properly. You'll still be waiting at your funeral. There is a first time for everything and a first step to every journey.
